10 Most Expensive Stores

If that rainy day has finally come and you feel like stepping out on the town to burn that hard-earned savings that you put away for just such a day, then you may be interested to know about the most expensive stores in the world and where you can find them. So grab your euros, dollars and yen and head to any one of these upscale boutiques, provided you have your own private jet and a chauffeur eager to squire you around town. If not, then you may want to put your rainy day funds back where there were and keep saving for that day in the future. For now, enjoy this list of the most expensive stores in the world:
  1. Fifth Avenue in New York City is home to the rich and the even richer socialites who shop at the most expensive store on this “green mile”, Hermes, the very same store that was caught up in a controversial hissy fit with Oprah Winfrey when they denied her access to browse because the store was apparently closed. Ms. Winfrey took it as a sign that she was not welcome because of her racial background, although Hermes still denies as such. This store ranks as number one because of its famed and best selling hand bags named after Grace Kelly and Jane Birkin, notably, the famed Birkin bag that sets you back at least 5,000 dollars and requires a waiting list for the precious leather accessory.
  2. Avenue Montaigne, Paris France boasts the most and world-class couture shops like Christian Dior and Chanel along this fashion mile in the city of lights. Each year, this shopping district pulls in $577 US dollars per square foot. It is no surprise that the fashion capital of the world would be placed second on the list of most expensive shopping locales.
  3. La Rinascente in Milan, Italy is giving Paris a run for its money, so to speak, as many of its residents stroll the streets in the latest fashions like Dolce and Gabbana from this upper-class store, the most popular department store in Italy. Its neighbors are a gourmet food store called 9 peck where fashionistas make a pit stop to refuel.
  4. Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich, Switzerland is a magnificent area that hosts many delightful stores where you can examine some of the richest treasures like the famed Swiss-made watches or if you have children with you, make sure to window shop at Franz Carl Weber, where like FAO Schwartz, the toy displays are as extravagant as the prices.
  5. Bond Street, London, England is a sophisticated march past famed auction house as Sotheby’s not to mention the likes of Cartier and Asprey where you may as well pick up a 50,000 watch.
  6. Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, California may only be three blocks in length but it packs an expensive punch where you can purchase the newest “It” bag from Gucci where you may see ex-Gucci model, Demi Moore. It is no surprise that there is a high concentration of star sightings on Rodeo Drive, as it is small but expensive.
  7. The Ginza District in Tokyo Japan boasts 8 city blocks of eye-popping riches and expensive wares to behold not to mention some of the most expensive real estate in the world along with the usual up-scale retailers like Yohji Yamamoto and Yves St. Laurent. Unique to this area is the Mitsukoshi department store that has a clock, which is thought of as a landmark all by itself.
  8. Avinguda Diagonal in Barcelona Spain showcases the funkiest and most unique shops around the world. For those of you who like to blaze a path in the fashion world, never to be seen wearing something mass-produced or the same as anyone else, think of shopping here.
  9. The Magnificent Mile in Chicago boasts an interesting fact that delights most when they hear that the Water Tower Mall is the last standing structure in this district after “the great fire”.  This mall is home to Tiffany, Versace, Louis Vuitton and Neiman Marcus among others.
  10. Laugavegur in Reykjavik, Iceland is unique in that it may not be traditionally known as a fashion hot spot but considering that Iceland is a very expensive country, shelling out for a chic outfit will put you in the limelight where admirers will want to know just where you got such a unique article of clothing.
