10 Best Cities for Business

It comes as no surprise that the United States would hold the cities for the best places to do business in and further one’s career. With a country that changes faster than the stock market does, business booms and so does America.  People move to the United States looking for a break, or for change and a new life, or rather, new and exciting opportunities that include better education and an overall better way of life. Coming in at number one as the best city in which to conduct business:
  1. Albuquerque, N.M with an average household income of fifty thousand dollars per year and a highly educated workforce not to mention home to many service industries that play in integral role such as Intel, Sandia National Labs, University of New Mexico and the Kirtland Air Force Base.
  2. Raleigh, N.C has a population of 934,000 and since 2001, many have flocked to this city for work in SAS Institute, WakeMed Health & Hospitals as well as North Carolina State University where well educated graduates leave the post-secondary institution to conduct business and propel their knowledge into Raleigh’s economy.
  3. Houston, Texas is no surprise as the third best city to conduct business as this city is riding the waves of the energy boom, especially considering that Houston is home to Halliburton, Royal Dutch Shell and Exxon Mobil, where the black becomes green, as in cash.
  4. Boise, Idaho was in the number one spot last year but due to a national average that has risen the past two years, this city that houses many service industries, comes in at fourth.
  5. Knoxville, Tennessee is homes to two of the best businesses that protect the city and it’s inhabitants from economic downturns such as the department of energy’s Oakridge branch as the largest in the United States with over 12,000 people employed and a 2.7 million budget.
  6. Phoenix, Arizona may have a high crime rate although in the last five years it has become the second city in the United States to draw almost 400,000 additional citizens due to a 40% lower cost of living.
  7. Nashville, Tennessee is a tourist-driven city that is a definite attribute to it’s economy, although many businesses are taking note of this top notch city to conduct business in because Nissan is moving it’s North American headquarters to Nashville from California.
  8. Durham, N.C comes in at number eight due to its highly educated workforce, almost 40% of its residents hold degrees while 18% hold higher education. Durham is home to Intel as well as Nortel Networks and the pharmaceutical giant, GlaxoSmithKline.
  9. Fayetteville, Ark. is home to several Wal-Mart stores including the headquarters which are in nearby Bentonville. Job and income growth are among the highest in the country although poor education scores keep this city from fully blossoming.
  10. Indianapolis, Indiana is the last stop on this list ranking the best cities for business as it holds many well-educated people who in turn apply that wealth to the workforce.
